Business Communication

Business is all about organization, effort, and reflection on that effort. Putting myself out there has been a key factor of the experience of the INCubator and ACCELerator courses.

When I first signed up for the INCubator class, I had no idea what to expect in terms of material to be learned and what business is really about. One of the most important skills we have consistently built is capturing the attention of the people listening to you. Elevator pitches and their short time frame are  an amazing tool that pushes a speaker to get a message across as quick and simple as possible. Instead of beating around the bush, in business you have to be direct because time is the most valuable asset a person has. When given the opportunity to present in front of people that can determine your success, being an energetic and creative story teller is an important skill.

I didn't know what LinkedIn was before taking this course, but now I have a built out profile with over 400 connections that I'm continuing to improve. Networking, especially through a business-centered platform like LinkedIn, is an amazing task that I at first saw as just another school assignment, but now I understand and truly appreciate the concept of networking that was introduced to me at such an early age. In addition to networking, LinkedIn has been a great place to reflect on the work I've been doing over the past school year with Scent Sacks. Reflecting on both successes and failures is an important part of business to be as productive and efficient as possible in the future.
